Our Provision

Cedars High Heworth

Since September 2025, Cedars High Heworth has been based at our newly redeveloped site in High Heworth, formerly Colegate Primary School. This setting provides a modern, spacious environment tailored to the needs of learners in Key Stages 3 to 5.

Our provision is designed to support students who are ready for a structured, age-appropriate curriculum focused on independence, employability, and preparation for adulthood. With small class sizes and personalised programmes, learners benefit from high levels of support alongside increased opportunities to explore the wider world.

A Specialist Setting, Adapted for Learning and Independence

The High Heworth site has been thoughtfully refurbished and adapted to meet the needs of learners in Key Stages 3 to 5.

Formerly Colegate Primary School, the environment has been transformed to support structured learning, life skills development, and preparation for adulthood.

The High Heworth site offers significantly enhanced facilities, including:

  • Expansive playing fields

  • Indoor sports hall

  • Fully equipped gym

  • Outdoor learning areas

These facilities allow students to enjoy a varied PE curriculum and active outdoor learning, promoting both physical wellbeing and social development. Our location in a residential community also provides easy access to local shops, services and public transport links, creating real-world opportunities for learners to build confidence in travel, money management and communication.

Work Experience and Life Skills

All students participate in work experience at some point during their programme. For those on our Independence and Employability pathways, this includes hands-on training in our on-site social enterprise outlet, where learners develop practical skills in catering, customer service, and workplace communication.

Through supported off-site visits and community engagement, we ensure students develop the life skills they need to thrive beyond school.

Curriculum That Reflects Every Learner

Our curriculum is tailored to the unique needs of each student. We combine academic learning with therapeutic interventions, vocational opportunities, and social-emotional development. This holistic model ensures learners make progress towards their EHCP outcomes while working towards long-term aspirations.

Our Key Stage 4 model also supports earlier identification of pathways for further education or supported living, helping families and professionals plan next steps with confidence.

At Cedars High Heworth, everything we do supports our goal of preparing learners to be "Fit for Life" - equipped for independence, participation in their communities, and the next stage of their journey.
